Danny could congratulate himself for a good while on having talked Scott down. Scott had been in bad shape after their incredible night together, and Danny had been worried about more than their marriage. He figured it was a testament to their relationship that they were able to sit down and calmly talk through a problem as ghastly as what Scott was dealing with, instead of sulking and hiding from one another like so many people would.

They were adults, damn it. They could act like it.

They spent their weekend “off” mostly hanging around the resort. Danny got a massage at the resort spa, and they spent time on the beach. They swam, and they napped a lot. They cuddled, and they held hands. They even kissed, although it didn’t get very intense. Danny tried to remind himself that he couldn’t expect them to have sex again so soon, not with the way Scott had freaked out. They’d jumped the gun on that, and it was unfortunate but that was just the way things were sometimes.

It didn’t mean he wasn’t frustrated, or that he didn’t spend more time in the shower than normal.

Yates, damn the man, brought everything up in Confessional. Fortunately they’d expected him to. They discussed their strategy and responses ahead of time, in the bathroom so they could keep it secret. Scott told Danny this helped him to stay calm during the Confessional session, and Danny could easily believe it. Given the way Yates tried to needle him, he could well believe he’d do the same thing to him.

There was just something so incredibly creepy about having a conversation with Yates, or anyone else, about his sex life. Yates sitting there and asking pointed questions like, “So you might have pushed things a little, but surely you must resent the setback,” didn’t help. It made his skin crawl.

“I ‘resent’ the people who made all of this necessary in the first place. And I think it’s a little odd that they faced no consequences at all. I can hardly fault my husband for something that was done to him, now can I?” He scoffed. “Scott is amazing, and anyone who thinks he’s anything but amazing can go right to Hell.”

The next week their planned activities tended to take place later in the day, with two sunset activities. They did a dinner cruise and a helicopter tour, in which it was Scott’s turn to be petrified and nauseous. Danny didn’t get it - Scott was fine with jumping off a cliff, but riding in a helicopter was too much to handle? He didn’t have to get it, he guessed. He just kept his arm around Scott’s waist and made sure the camera was on him instead.

Scott had a moment of panic when he was out running and someone recognized him from the show, but he got over it quickly and signed some autographs. None of the fans were aggressive. They were literally just nice people who wanted to wish him and them well.
